Hendrix was ok and all, but I think he's a little over-rated. No offense to him at all, he's really great. But I think there are thousands of others that are just as good as him, that can play anything he could, and they don't get any recognition at all. Every heard of SRV? Yeah, he was influenced by Hendrix, but I think he had more feeling and emotion (probably because he went bluesy with it all) And even though people may not like him, Metallica's Kirk Hammet is one of the greatest guitarists of today's music. I don't think it has much appeal, but he is pretty good if you watch him. Also, what about Steve Vai? I mean, those are just a few that got left out.
I think it's a great idea, but honestly, it's too hard to choose from anything under ten of the greatest guitarists. But if you are asking whos the greatest out of those choices, sure, I'd say Hendrix. And I don't really like the music, but I have to admit, Clapton is up there, too.

Wht did you split one artist into his groups? Clapton still plays his cream stuff solo. Why isn't stevie ray vaugn on that list? he is amazing. Hendrix was great but thats just because he did stuff that was so original, but Clapton can play blues, rock, and everything in between. Steppin' Out is the best Cream Clapton guitar song, and then prob. born under a bad sign,

well...hendrix did it all too...eric clapton even commented on him...after seeing him live "wow this man is amazing, i dont want to admit it, but he just made my song better, and on the spot."

ok for one song. Clapton is very modest anyways. Playing songs that some else wrote is easier than writing anyways. Do you know anything about Cream? ?

yes i do, but im just saying yes he is modest, but if you are commended by one of the greatest guitarists ever, that puts you up there (not saying hes better) and to write your own music is hard, but for the fact that he became amazing by age 29...and the fact that he did it all stoned or tripping basically, with an almost always drunk drummer, and a bassist that never did drugs until the band started (so he had harsh effects from the drugs)...hendrix did well...i think hes the best...but that not determinable...
also...yes i love cream...amazing stuff...im a big big big fan of anyone for tennis...just the whole mood...but i think we should stop trying to compare hendrix and clapton...cuz its hard...very hard...

i guess your favorite guitarist has to do with what your favorite type of music is. I mean, it is impossible to say that one person is outright the best guitar player in the world every, because how would you measure that? Talent? Originallity? It's tough.
If you like blues, most likely it would be SRV. If you liked rock and funky kinda stuff, it would be Hendrix. If you like modern rockish type stuff, Steve Vai would be good and all. If you like rock in general and junk like that, Clapton is your man. And there are plenty others out there, but basically I'm just trying to say, whatever is your favorite genre of music, most likely your favorite guitarist is at the top of that genre's list.

debate our opinions on who was better...and state our reasons...although not all of them are compareable...half the fun is trying to compare them anyways...

true, true, true
I don't really want to say best, because it sounds so utterly superior and it would sound like I am making a final, unchangable decision. I feel that opinions change and all, so for now, I will say better.
I think SRV is better than Hendrix. Now that I have created chaos and a strange look on your face, I will explain. Hendrix was good, very damn good. But his music never did anything for me, it was just a lot of fast and complecated guitar licks. I feel that SRV has that talent, plus he has the spirit of a great guitarist.
What's the difference between an old black blues guy and a new crap band like Simple Plan? Emotion. An old black guy plays the blues because that's how he feels, and when he does play, his facial expressions are symetrical to his music. Simple Plan plays distorted guitar riffs that are catchy and ones that will get them more fans and ultimately, more money. Music is all about emotion, and I feel that SRV had much more emotion than anyone ever did.
SRV played just as good as Hendrix, and in my opinion, even a little better. But the main difference is the emotion. Stevie did a lot of whacky shit with his guitar just like Hendrix, but SRV will always be my fav.

I cannot believe that there is no [glow=red,2,300]SRV[/glow] man. He was the only guy who could play Hendrix. If his Heli would not have crashed he would have been the best or one of them.......he was geting clean and was at the peak when he dies man.
Don't forget about the [glow=red,2,300]SRV[/glow]
