I'm not exceptionally religious (I'll call it a transitional stage and leave it there) but my old roots in Catholicism compell me to take a look into it. Plus, my movie standard is the same in every case, really. If there's a steady load of popcorn involved and the flic is more than an hour and thirty, there'll be a seat with a Joey in it.
As to the anti-semetism, that's just the way things went down back in the day. I don't believe that the "sins of the father" ought to carry on down the line, and aren't the Jews and Romans simply there to sybolize humanity in general? Didn't we, as humans, call for and commit the "murder" of Jesus? Of course, I suppose it's not really murder, it just sounds better if you say it after commit.

I saw a trailer for it last night on tv. Looks good. My mom was there and I asked her if I could go see it. She hesistated and said it wasn't even out yet. I can tell the religious part of it (the whole thing) is to blame for her feelings. She might try claiming it is R, so I can' watch it, but I have seen many R movies and I'll know its because of the religion. No one in my imediate family is religious at all (except for me). It seems to me that most people who aren't religious are a) scared by it or b) don't want to be restricted by religious ethics/morals.

I think Gibson was pretty bold to make the movie as accurate as it is, and as graphic as it is. If there was ever a more controversial subject then Jesus, I have yet to hear of it. Especially focusing on Jesus' death on the cross, an extrememly horrible way to die.
But the movie is not anti-semetic or even pointing fingers at anyone. It follows the gospels, and did they seek to do that? As a Christian, I believe in Jesus' death on the cross and his resurection. It should not be watered down and Christian children, i believe, NEED to see it. Its the truth, not some touchy feely story about Jesus that may only lead them away from the truth. If people need to be hit with anything, they should be hit with the truth about Jesus' death, and all of it in as much accurate and grity and gruesome and even disturbing detail as possible.
