I'm Christian, and I'm deffinently going to see this movie. I imagine it will be inspiring, seeing Jesus's life unfold on the screen. I agree that speaking in Aramiac and Latin will add to the feel of the movie. I can't wait.

I'm actually rather afraid to see this movie. Blood and gore grosses me out, and this movie displays a lot of graphic (but true) scenes.

thats interesting that the school would allow you to see it, only because it is rated "R," even if it is religious.

I did a little "research" on this film (I got bored during free mod and read the newspaper.) Anyways, this thread is mis-titled, but I'm sure you all noticed that. In case you didn't, the movie is called, "The Passion of the Christ". Since spoken dialogue is in Aramaic, Jesus is actually referred to in the movie as "Joshua," according to the articles I read.
I disagree with this movie's premise. It only focuses on the last twelve hours of Jesus' life, and focuses on the violence of his crucifixion. I know Jesus lived longer than twelve hours. Gibson says that he wants people (especially young people) to see the violence and feel the true meaning of Jesus' death. I was a kid. When I saw violence, it either scared me, or it scared me. Little kids won't get any meaning out of seeing a bloody, mutilated Jesus, they will be frightened. Kids should not see this movie. Religion should teach kids good morals, not traumatize them. And I won't see this movie either, not out of protest, simply out of a lack of desire. I don't want blood all over my faith (what little Catholic High School has left me with.)

Yea,I doubt any kids will see this.It is ment to show the true, not dumbed down way Jesus died, and it looks like it will do a good job.
And Gibson is in it for a bit,his hands are the ones that hammer the nails into Jesus' hands/wrists.Just a bit-o-info.

Yea,I doubt any kids will see this.It is ment to show the true, not dumbed down way Jesus died, and it looks like it will do a good job. Actually, the articals I read quoted a few pastors and priests saying that they are encouraging their young members to see this movie (10 year olds and older.) And they have even rented out entire theaters for their parishiners. Parents and religious leaders are fine with exposing kids to violence. How can people be in favor of violence in this case, yet against it in so many others? edit: I found this. Read this.... www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2004-02-16-passion-rating-kids_x.htmSounds like they went a little too far with some of the violence, if that artical is true. I do know tha USA Today tends to exaderate sometimes though...

How can people be in favor of violence in this case, yet against it in so many others? I am against violence, but if you are going to show the death of Jesus how it really happened then all the blood and such needs to be there. It would be like showing a WWII movie and have everyone picking flowers,it needs to be show how it was truly down. And I doubt I would let someone under 10 see it,unless they were very mature and could handle these kinds of things,I mean this movie will be a lot to sallow for adults, and I doubt kids would appreciate the movie.Wow,long run on...

You pretty much just summed up everything I think here...
It's like on South Park when they made fun of watered down movies, they had "Saving Private Ryan," with guns replaced with walkie talkies.
So violence is necesary, to a certain degree. But either way, parents need to think of whether or not their kids should see such violence, and back their decision with something more than religious fanaticism.
