Which do you like best?
I myself always watch the Japanese with the English subs, just feels better that way.I think the only series I watch the dub for is Bebop,it is well done.

subtitles are the best for foreign films.. i don't know about cartoons. When you have it dubbed it seems like the characters lose their emotions or their "feel". Or at least that's how i feel about it. Plus, with subs you get to learn a new language, who wouldn't like that, hmm

I hope you weren't referring to anime as "cartoons", Soli. >__< You know how obsessed I am. As for me, I watch subs, except in the case of Cowboy Bebop. I'd rather get it fansubbed then suffer through eighteen minutes (remember, a lot was edited out) of shrill or emotionless voices. Like Soli said, you do get to learn languages. Things like Kagome yelling "osuwari" (sit) and Miaka crying "itte" (stop) have really sunk in. Maybe that's just me...

Hmm, I don't really care. As long as the dubbing isn't terrible, it's fine with me. I mean, plus if I own the thing, I might as well watch it in all the different versions...

The dubbing usually is terrible. I get my fansubs on Kazaa, bittorrent, or occasionally I scrimp up $4.00 and buy it off of some fan subber. They're all illegal but there is no other way to get ahold of subtitled anime. Grrr.

i dont really care that much. the dubbing usually isnt too bad, with some exceptions. i guess i would prefer it subbed, but i have no problem watching a dubbed show either. but in the US, if you want to just watch some anime on TV, its gonna be dubbed.
by the way Sarian, whats wrong with calling anime a cartoon? thats what it is, anime basicall means cartoon. (im just playing the devil's advocate here mind you)

well, yeah, that's the impression I get too But if everyone says the subs are better... Hey, I thought the few episodes of inuyasha dubs I saw were fine, really. But then, I've never seen subbed versions of anything other than a Godzilla movie (my uncle's got them all)

Anime refers to Japanese animiation, and cartoons are a completely different medium of art. It's like calling manga, comics. I also don't like American cartoons for the most part, so it's insulting to see it called cartoons. If you'd call them cartoons at an anime convention...well, you'd get your ass beat.

i dont care really one way or another. i am duly entertained either way. not to mention that i like anime more far the art than the stories usually. not that the stories are bad, mind you, i just like the animation a lot, like in spirited away. man that was great stuff

Anime refers to Japanese animiation, and cartoons are a completely different medium of art. i do get what your saying, i sometimes get picky about calling it anime. i was just wondering what your exact thoughts were. the main problem with saying "cartoon" to describe anime is the connotation (sp?) involved rather than the actual meanings. cartoon just makes people think of kid shows and thats just not accurate, especially with anime. nightmare, i agree with you about the inuyasha dub. the only problem is sometimes kagome's voice gets annoyingly shrill when shes yelling for inuyasha

Yep, a bit shrill. Come to think of it, I think this site is alot more anime-inspired than people realize. This smile, for example: I'll be damned if I remember what thread right now, but someone was asking why the head was crying from over the right eye. Um.....
