hah... SATAN poking your butt...thats a sad depiction...i think flames...and seperation from everything God made including all characters in hell (lucifer, satan, devil, bezelbub, belial). So its abscense from everything but burning...for eternity...no light...no room...clostraphobia and paranoia at its finest...with a third degree toaster...

I believe in a form of reincarnation and that there is a universal soul that we return to for a time after we die. Basically, I'm pretty sure I'm close toa Buddhist in my views of death and the like.

For me my view of heaven and hell are basically the popular views. But how can anyone know for sure?

We don't know for sure, and that's the whole point.
But having knowledge of your past life would kind of hurt the purpose of reincarnation. Think about it, you reincarnate until your soul becomes one with the universe and all life and whatnot. If you knew that reincarnation happened, you'd just automatically correct all of the mistakes you made in the past life and BOOM cheat your way to everlasting peace. That's why you just have to believe in it happening, and live life the best you can in hopes of obtaining oneness with all.
...........That's at least how I see it. But I still want to be an otter. ^_^

Haha, whats with the otter man? Otters are cool, but they are mean too. My friend's friend got attacked by one.
How did those of you who believe in reincarnation or a universal soul arrive at your beliefs? Just wondering.

Hmm...I am sort of Buddhist and a quasi-agnostic now. Answering your question Wilshire...
My family is reeeeallly religious. They're Catholic. Since I was young (about six), I've been drilled that the bible is flawless, that Jesus died to save, and my faith would save me from eternal damnation, etc. etc. I started to think about other religions, that were in practice longer then the whole Christian/Catholic deal. By not knowing about God, did they go to hell? Most religions claim to have some sacred text and something had to be wrong as most preached they were the right one. A couple years ago I did some reading on Plato (who's philosophies were the basis for the bible- world of pure ideas/heaven) and discovered his theory of knowledge. What made sense to me what that one of them is pure ideas lead to imperfect examples. We were souls in a world of pure ideas...um...I'll explain this to anybody who wants me too. I don't feel like thinking hard now. -__-
Ok. This is getting long. Long story short. I'm agnostic-Buddhist (Buddhist really but I'm more of a quasi-agnostic now that I think about it- the pure world came from somewhere). Buddhism just...clicked for me (the lifestyle, all of the four noble truths, five skhandas, etc.) . I'm not doing it just to be different. It follows my views towards religion. There is no religious dogma....
I hope this answered your question and didn't confuse you. It's hard to put things into words sometimes. Please don't try to debate my choice of religion though. I'm not saying you are going to...just a warning.... ^__^;;

that is fine, but plato is not the basis for the bible, the bible is based upon God's direct writings (he brothe them through men), so that men wrote it down wrong, or men screwed up, this says that it isnt screwed up, its all right, so i am fine if you disagree, if you disagree i cannot hold you to the bible because you dont believe in it...common sense...but i cannot accept comments that are false about it...nothing against you...but i feel a responsibility to support my religion, and defend its truth...so i can understand your journey...but i would suggest looking into christianity, not through others as much, i would go to the Bible itself, and i would suggest reading parts, now...you probably wont, and would probably say youve read a lot of it and it doesnt click...but i believe it has power in the words of it, and if you read it, God can work through it...so i would like you to give it another try...because i would Die for its Truth, and think that anyone (which there have been millions) is a testimony that it is not all that bad...if solomon wrote parts of it, then i think that is also basis for saying that you cannot discredit all of it...

I meant that the whole concept of a world of pure ideas is used a lot (i.e. heaven). I didn't word it right. ^__^; Well, everybody needs something to believe in. To each his own and all that. I believe I'll stay where I am.

well the search for truth is human nature, if you ever have this urge, try the bible, also try the koran, torah, buddah writings, and such as lenin and marx and solomon for ideas on lifes existance, i believe that the best is the bible, and that if you check all of these out equally, you will choose christianity, this is by the power of God...(thats always fun to say)...but to each his own, i say this out of grief that you do not choose to invest time into the word of Jesus, because it is my belief that Faith saves you, and i want noone to perish, so this is my want for everyones better being, not of bashing any other belief, but i will now stop pushing my beliefs, becasue force is not the answer, this is enough, if you dont check it out you dont, that is all...it inputted, and now feel i am right with what i have done...
now...that i have done that...i agree with much of buhdism, obviously until in infringes upon christianity, but the nirvana aspect is good because it shares common morality with the bible, and it is a very good way to become out of greed, and lust, and covet, so go bhuddism in its structure and frame, but not all of it...

i think there was a quote from the movie Dogma that said something like "it doesn't matter what religion you believe in, as long as you believe in something." And this is in the sense that, if you spend your life following Christianity, then you will lead a life that is an attempt at not commiting sin, and when you do, you are sorry for it. If you choose the Buddhist route, you will be attempting self-improvisation, with a goal of Nirvana. In the end, if there is a God or not, you have lived a very good life either way. If you spend your entire life living an extremely Buddhist life, and you die and God is standing there, obviously Christianity was the "right religion" but since you have been living a Christian life "attempting not to sin and when you do, you are sorry" I'm pretty sure God would not banish you to hell for not going to Church every Sunday.
I don't really think what you believe in, as long as you believe in something and follow it fully with your heart.

But what if you don't beleive that Jesus dies for you yet you did live a good life?Think you would still go to Heaven?

But what if you don't beleive that Jesus dies for you yet you did live a good life?Think you would still go to Heaven? If heaven does indeed exist, yes I think that you should. However, I don't believe in it, so it's kind of a moot point. Thoughts and beliefs are meaningless when compared to actions.

ok...well a christian life is not based on how good you are...it lies soley..only...and entirely (synynoms in this context) on your Faith...if you kill murder and steal, lie, covet, lust, it doesnt matter, once you have trust and belief (Faith...broadly) in Jesus, you reach heaven...further...if you are mother teresa^1000000 (this is the exponent for anyone stupid...like spongebob might not know this...)...it doesnt matter...with no faith...HELL!...im sorry...it is blatant...and seems rash...but if you dont love God...and trust him to save you...he won't...he gives it as a gift, you dont have to be good...all you need is love (Faith broadly again)...and then you get heaven...it doesnt matter how bad you are...on your salvation...

So basically, you're saying that if you're not Christian you go to "hell?" Seems kind of like an ignorant and elitist view on the world to me...
