ok pal, listen to this. The greeks actually ACCEPTED homosexual relations ESPECIALLY between boys and older men. i dont know why, but i defintely know that boys were actually courted by older men so it was a norm. and second of all. and anyways, who are you to say whats normal. you say that it wasnt accepted by ALL those cultures, and yet you fail to realize that all of those cultures had homosexuals in them. How can it not be normal for some people to be homosexuals when it spans cross-culturally. Anyways, my argument first started out as a personal attack on you for being such a bigot. you hate retards, blacks and homosexuals. You are ignorant. Maybe in South Carolina you're still segregated or something, but every opinion you have of everything is a stereotype. Indeed, the Greeks didn't mind homosexuality that much, hell they were the ones who invented naked wrestling. Now since they were one of the earliest cultures on earth, before the egyptians, before the western europeans, they had less inhibitions due to a lack of societal expectations, meaning they were unbiased. Therefore homosexuality wasn't that bad. But now, after two thousand years of Catholic dominance, the thought of homosexuality has been implanted in our minds over the generations. And if homosexuality weren't natural, why would people be gay, because they obviously don't choose to be gay? It's because it's a natural thing. Some people are just born to be gay, just like some people are born to be retarded.

Okay, for starters, the Greeks may have encouraged homosexuality but i've never heard of it. Im not saying its not true, but what im getting at is that they did not accept it as a natural state of sexual orientation, indeed, as you said they had to encourage it. And thus they must have used it as a means to an end (though what end i don't know w/o research). Also in the ottoman empire during tehe1500's homosexual relationships were encouraged between the janissaries who were troops to build closer bonds between members and make them a more more unified, modeling after the spartan type of military training. But in those few cases it was used as a means to an end, and not necessarily regtarded as natural.
And come on guys, i told you before and i have to tell you again, i didn't say i hated homosexuals, i didn't say i hated retards (i explained myself quite clearly), and i definitely didn't say i hated blacks - you are just making that up because the KKK was mentioned by someone else and i mentioned it too (how low can you go to make a statement?).
And it isn't just normal, though it depends on your definition of normal, because if men had sex with men, you would not be here today. Period amen. The normal thing is heterosexual relationships where babies are produced and kids can be raised in a "normal" environment so to speak. Even the politicians are having problems with giving rights to gays and lesbians raising children.

oh, and the simple fact that there was homosexuality evident in cultures that were hardly related does not make it natural, normal, or right. And it is also true that homosexuality was evident on a much much much smaller scale in past cultures than it is today. It is evident on such a large scale today and is so problematic in socitey, because of the media that can reach worldwide, and how it promotes it so much. Now you can't say that the media didn't contribute in some capacity to the sudden increase in the number of gays in that past 50 years or so. Liberals mostly say its okay b/c they can get votes, and they can make everyone "happy", even though they are not doing the right thing.
Now this is MY argument, and i apologize for the personal attacks on you guys before, it was out of place. So could we stop with those altogether and just argue w/o them?

The greeks had very heavy societal expectations especially of the man. The idea of virtu, or virtue, was emphasized in the extreme. Those are the virtues of manliness; courage, honor, fidelity, etc... Wrestling spawned from these ideas of bravery and strength rather than a need to express their indifference to homosexuality.
Just because people are gay doesn't make that natural. People are stupid too, just utterly stupid, but is that natural, don't humans have the ability to reason and learn to great capacities. Part of the reason these unnatural things occur is because of how people are raised, and what their surroundings are.
Now i am inclined to belive that because of the media these days, many people choose become gay as an alternate way of life (even though they are exposed to heterosexuality). The gay population in the united states now, has more gays than there has ever been in a nation before. Its not because the 'genetic' causes (if there are any) have spread and affected more people, its because a greater number or people are adopting the gay lifestyle as their own, by free choice. Now if most people are like this (chossing to be gay) then its obvious that the option to be gay can be and IS chosen by people. Retarded people (or mentally handicapped as a softer tone for those of you who are obviously sensitive to its usage) can not choose to be retarded, but stupid people, influenced by their surrounding and the media can choose to be stupid, and that is not natural.

Yeah its been a ........ good......... discusion i could say. Some insults thrown, but some good points made. I started it just to get some opinions and make a case, and i got both. But hey, its clear as day to me that homosexuality is wrong, however, i do not in any way persecute gays themselves. I as a Catholic stand by the teachings of the Church, and so I argue those points. Seeing that many people here aren't Catholics, or even Christians, i think the discussion was enjoyable to say the least  . All is well ;D And for all of you who believe a word this guys says, here is what i wrote in my post where he got my "quote" from, notice nothing in here resembling a quote of that nature. hmmmmmmm |

Like I said before: You can't argue with idiots because it will get you nowhere. You can use simple logic, and lay it out plain and clear, but they are mostly obstinate fools who just wont budge. Like the old saying goes: "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."
Hey, it was an...interesting topic. It got out of hand, of course no conclusion was reached. But in the end it doesn't really matter what we all say, because in the end all will be resolved as it is meant to be resolved. Then we will see who is right, and who is wrong.

So there are things we can know are wrong using simple reason and listening to our conscience, other things we must look at evidence and further our reason to decide But our attempts to discover right and wrong could be influenced by things such as the media, and general moral decay that occurs over time; both of which can affect our conscience, malforming it, or affect our ability to reason correctly.
