I'd say the Ring is one of the scarier movies i've seen. Not many movies are truly scary, they are only surprising at sometimes. A lot of them are just gruesome to the point of absurdity, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the new one) and House of 1000 Corpses, or so I heard, i haven't seen them.

Night of the Living Dead Evil Dead Juon:The Grudge(A GOOD moive done by the guy that did the original Ring, not the American pile of crap)

yes, many old scary movies were scary for their time. But these days we have been so desensitized by violence and gore, that there are few truly scary movies left? anyone agree?

i agree with you.when exorcist first came out it was probably the scariest movie around.now we watch and just laugh at how not scary it is. but thats society.

well...the shining is a great movie...maybe not scary to some..but the quality, plot (lacking in everything now a days) leginence (prospect of being legit, is that the right word?), it's famous quotes, and the paranoia...and plus...cops...well...no cops...but its a classic...cops would help...(did they have cops at the end?)

I'm gonna have to go with Alice in Wonderland as the best/scariest horror movie of all time.

I'm not sure if this would count as horror...
The Nightmare Before Christmas
But either way it is a sweet movie.

nightmare before christmas was really sweet. but scott i think ur being kinda harsh by calling the ring a pile of crap. but ill watch the original and see how they compare. did neone think blair witch project was scary? i kept waiting for it to be scary when i was watching, but it never lived up to the hype.

Too many f-words. That go annoying after a while. It was mildly scary, at parts, and i thought the end was cool, but overall it was kind of a let down. It didn't live up to the claim that is was "scary as hell", b/c im sure its much scarier in hell.
