Oh, am I gonna like it here...
Here's a poser: Who do you use and why is that character the best? Also, what's your favorite weapon for that character? Let's hit it!

I’m a Mitsurugi man. He’s an all-around guy, with well-balanced speed and good power. His moves are relatively easy to perform, and he’s lots of fun on top of lookin’ good while doing it. Most of his combos go from 2 to 4 hits, so it’s a breeze to pop some godo ones off. And his range is well, in the middle. Plus, hell, he’s a samurai, and samurai kick ass. And that third outfit he has is an anime reference, with the blue gi and the match sticking out of the corner of his mouth. I forget what anime it was though.
I recommend him for beginners, people who want to win (he was rated the second deadliest character after Yoshimitsu) and people with samurai fetishes.
Fave weapon has to be the Damascus Sword. I think it’s offensively the most powerful weapon in the entire game, but Mitsurugi can’t block when it’s equipped. This means that you have to rely on dodging and guard impacts to win, forcing you to become a more skillful warrior. Plus there’s the fact that it can take out half a person’s life bar with one strong hit. Other than that his weapons suck besides the Masamune. But it’s a videogame rule that all swords named after the great 14th century swordsmith must kick ass. Oh, and then there’s the Souvenir Gift, but that’s cuz it makes the funny sound.
And yes Scott, you should be beaten.

Dude, where are you getting these deadly ratings? I wanna check it out. I always got the deep, lacerating impression that Ivy was the deadliest... On the other hand, why do people try to find out who's the statistically BEST character? Be like me, fight with your favorite character... It's so much more fun that way! Strong, Weak... I can't remember where from, but I remember a quote saying that that(strong, weak) was "the selfish interpretation of people", and that "true masters try to win with their favorites"... Where was that from, now...

I know, they felt that Ivy wasn’t very good in the original so they made her kick ass in this one. And I don’t exactly know how the guy did it, but he obviously studied every character and came up with that. Yoshimitsu probly ranked #1 because of his trickery and misdirection. And seeing as how that’s a big part in winning SC2, I suppose those results are acceptable. But none of that matters if there’s a character that you like playing. Like you said, I say it as well. Go with who suits you best, I just chose Mitsurugi cuz he’s cool. But now I’m more effective with him than any other, and I still would be even if we was considered the worst.

Hmmmm. I just noticed something absolutely intriguing. As I said before, I'm working on Mina. In order to give it a break, I played EX Arcade with Nightmare. Out of newly formed instinct, I accidently used a Mina command, and Pow! I unleashed a Nightmare power I'd always had trouble with before! Can it be that using any character will boost ones abilities with everyone else? That's what seemed to happen. I can now use Nightmare like water: a constant flow of wide-arc attacks that left virtually no time for recovery... But i'll be damned if Ivy didn't present problems. I didn't go up against Mitsu or Yoshi, so I have no idea how they would've reacted, but...
I have to say, the whole revelation was fascinating. I suddenly CAN use my namesake better than anyone else... Look out...
My favorite weapon for Night is Soul Edge (Growth). It does more damage than his Soul Calibur and recovers his health, but gaurding allows 20% damage thru... still, overall best for Night IMO. ;D
Oh, and you're almost right about the Damascus Sword. I briefly played as Mitsu, and liked that sword alot. My fighter's guide states the Damascus sword has an attack power of 175%, 2nd highest in the game.. defense at 150%.. obvious downside, 45% damage let through the gaurd...
the weapon i've found to be the highest attack power (so far) is Maxi's Vajra. 180% damage, but only 100% defense, and this thing allows through 100% damage from gaurded attacks. in short, gaurd = completely ineffective.
Here's a thought: how many think the "ultimate" weapons (found in EX Chapter 2) should be much better overall, and instead of a joke weapon, everyone could have a Soul Calibur. Just as Soul Edge generally steals health in some way, Soul Calibur could restore health. Imaginge... Ivy or Necrid or even Raphael's Soul Calibur... THAT would be fun... (Link, Heihachi,Spawn's soul calibur... even more fun...)

Speaking of joke weapons, just how the hell do you get all of them? I only have a couple. And lizardman, how do you get him?
And I think Yoshimitsu can only be effective if used by a human player. The computer would just think about straight hits, and not consider tricking people out.

According to OPM to get Lizardman you have to beat subchapter 2 in weapon master mode.
It is either THUG,Mario Kart,or this...

Correction: here's the low-down:
Lizardman: Beat EVERY mission, story and extra. 6switch is correct in that usually Subchapter 2 is the last chapter unlocked, and therefore the last one beaten.
Joke weapons: Really for completionists only. Get into Subchapter 2, all of them are in the shop... These damnable things cost way more than the Ultimate Weapons. They all have 80% Attack and Defense, making them weaker than other weapons. However, CPU players get a little dumber when you use them.
Just for fun, here's a list of the character - weapon.
Astaroth - Rock Cassandra - Keepsake Cervantes - Imitation Swords Ivy - Prototype Ivy Blade Kilik - Bamboo staff Maxi - Termite Snack Mitsurugi - Souvenir Gift Necrid - Etheral Edge Nightmare - Galley Oar Raphael - Cane Seung Mina - Feather Broom Sophitia - Memento Taki - Tobacco Pipes Talim - Weight Voldo - Tambourines Xianghua - Calligraphy Brush Yoshimitsu - Sheperd's Crook Yunsung - Child's Sword
Heihachi - Neshougatsu Spawn - Sorrow Link - Bug-Catching Net
wooo... my... fingers.... oh well.
Subchapter 2: lemme get me guide... (I know where on the map it is, but I always forget how to unlock it)... OK, here we are... I'll direct quote the book (by BradyGames):
"This is the hardest section of Weapon Master mode to reach. To unlock this area, a player's ranking must be into the Edgemaster range (level 72 is the first Edgemaster rank). After that, the player must overcome chapter 4, Stage 3 a second or third time simply to uncover the road to Alioth)."

I am to please... but not to suck up. I found out something interesting... though the book rates everyone's joke at 80% both ways, I tested Cassandra's and the Practice rating said 50%... Maybe the weapon i chose for the other person had high defense? I dunno. the jokies all make really stupid sound effects when you use them... Example:
Nightmare Soul Edge: typical slashy-noise. Nightmare Galley Oar: A wave and a flock of seagulls.

I personally like Ivy's and Necrid's they make those "boing" noises.
But jsut what mission is CH. 4 Stage 3? The path splits, so I'm confused which one is 3. I hope it's not that one where you face 6 people in the monastery and have to ring them out in like 30 seconds. That one's a bitch.

uh, sorry man. That's the one. Be notoriously cheap... And don't give up(even though the weapons, in all honesty, aren't worth the effort.) Once you get EVERYTHING, you get a new start screen backround! YAY! ;D
