Some people could say that I lead a sad life when my greatest aspiration for Valentine's day is to change my oil. To a degree they are very correct, a day of the year specifically set aside to signify appretiation of someone you love is fairly important. The fact of the matter is, whether you agree with it or not, Valentine's day does mean honoring those whom you love most. In my case, that means I'm gonna give my mom a kiss on the cheek before she goes to work and play with my dog a bit, no special someone to celebrate with. I do not, however see this as a tragedy, I am comfortable with the fact that I don't have a girlfriend on Valentine's day. Sure, it would be nice if I did, but I am a happy person. There is little more I'd rather do tomorrow than sleep in, change my oil, and play some video games. Do I mean to invalidate those who DO have someone to share the holiday with? no, V-day is a great excuse to get/do something special for someone you have feelings toward.
Am I bitter or sad that I don't have a date? no.
Am I upset at those who do? no.
I celebrate my valentines day the way I have chosen, and so, I believe, should everyone else.
That being said, Happy Valentine's day everyone, enjoy your day and let those in your life that you care about (be it a girlfriend, relative, or close friend) that they do mean something to you.

our school does this stupid carnations thing every valentines day (or if its on a weekend, on the friday) where they pass out carnations to people that got them. its not so humiliating as it used to be but if you dont' get one, it still sucks.

Hollidays that involve "getting closer" to people are bull shit. I'm sorry, but you should donate to worthy causes year round, not once a year on Christmas because you feel bad. And also, you shouldnt be affectionate to people once a year (oh wait, twice because of the Sweetest day bull shit Hallmark Created...).
What makes a holliday the one thing that designates you doing good things to others?
Care about others and respect others and love your country and all of that holliday mumbo jumbo year round. Dont be a hypocrite.

Thank you unojuno, I couldn't have put it better but I utterly agree. At least Valentine's day has some historical significance. Odd that this year it followed Friday the 13th....but I guess that does happen every once in a while.

I agree, i'm single but i do not interperate v-day as a "couple's" day. (unlike sarien who is ever so bitter wearing all black). It's just a day to show your loved ones how much you appreciate them. Actually, i do have a valentine though, my best friend sasha. With the being said, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!! Me? Bitter? Yeah, just a bit. >__< |

i disagree, sweetest day is the worst... its like fake fall valentines. but valentines day i think is really lame. it is just a dumb holiday, not cool like halloween or my birthday

Valentines Day is meant as a special day to recognize people you love. That doesn't mean you shouldn't recognize them year round, there is just a day set aside where you can do something extra, something out of the ordinary.
Im single, and im not looking for a girlfriend. I get gifts from friends, and give some. But having a girlfriend isn't too important for me anyways, but i can still have a great Valentines Day. And so should you!
(yes, i realize this is being composed approx. 20 min. after valentines day is over...my b)
