Drugs are uncool. I have had a sip or two of an adult beverage though, but that's only on rare occasions, and like I said, only a sip or two. I do have a friend that gets regularly smashed though. Funny stuff.

Well I do get a lot of pressure to drink and smoke pot. Although I can really only blame myself for that, because there are a lot of people that consider me to be a comical genius, so they think I’ll be the messiah of comedy if I’m shitfaced or high. I’m quite glad to say, however, that I’ve managed to resist all that. And it’s not because of moral objection, or because grownups just say “it’s bad” with no explanation, but from my own discoveries and reasoning. Just like my resistance to organized religion, I resist altering my state of consciousness by artificial means, simply because I want to get by in this life by myself, making my own path, carving my own destiny, and not leaning on some crutch like drugs. I don’t have anything against those who use them, though. If it works for you, go ahead. Hell, a bunch of Tool’s music was influenced by acid trips, and it caused them to produce some of the most amazing music I’ve ever heard. But since dropping acid or shooting up heroin or any other shit isn’t gonna make me write a song or save a puppy, I think I’ll just leave them alone.

so you admit that you have a conciouncis *or however spelt* against drugs...well doesnt this prove a common morality amongst people? its commonly thought that murder is wrong, no society supports common murder...so doesnt this prove some sort of God or some brain development...
beyond that...if this proves that our brains evolved into a conscious...dont you think other things would come first? i mean from primates to humans, only humans have concious, and you dont think that this concious was the least evolved one ever? i mean with evolution, you start scarce, then build up, then add a new appendix of sorts, you dont just start off with evolving on a perfect arm, it took many steps to get the fine arm us humans have now...
so this just proves evolution wrong in a broad sense...

i believe in evolution, like opposable thumbs and stuff. but concious wasnt evolved, something happened. not necessarily religious though thats one thing religion trys to explain

well, i was just sitting here watching trigun when, whatta ya know, a perfect quote shows up. in "Peace Maker," merril comments (this may not be exact) "the only reason people turn to alcohol is to forget about something."

it depends--if u're depressed about something, trying to forget about something, or whatever then u're more seceptible to getting hooked

Nah, nah, you’re not getting it. Our “conscience” (that’s what you tried to spell, right?) tells us to stay away from drugs on the basis of self-preservation, a natural instinct. That’s why society views murder as wrong. Killing people denies them the ability to preserve themselves, making it a crime against nature. And our brains never just gained a conscience. It slowly developed over time as Homo Sapiens grew more complex brains. Cro-Magnon, Neanderthal, and other Hominids like Australopithecus were precursors to us, Homo Sapien Sapien (the second Sapien is our subspecies), but their thinking processes were a couple sandwiches short of a picnic, and they died out. And those early men descended from monkeys, who share the same conscience, just at a much more basic level. Have you ever asked a chimpanzee if he had a conscience? If only they could understand you, they’d be throwing their pooh at you right now.
And yes William, you have a point with the genetics thingy. My family has one of the worst histories imaginable for alcoholism. That’s why I’m staying the hell away from it, lest it destroy my life.
And her name is spelled Meryl, not Merril (no beef against you, I just figured I’d clear that up)

i'd hate to have to be the "bad boy" here but i have done alchohol not just a sip, i've gotten smashed and the like. i'v smoked a little pot here and there but never on a regular basis. let me clear someone up for u. people don't turn to alchohol to forget something. they may in one case or another but that is not the end all be all reason of why people "turn" to alchohol. i have gotten shit faced because i wanted to know what it was like. yeh there was some peer pressure in their but i could have just as easily said no. before i jumped in with both feet i made a promise to myself that A. i would always make the choice of whether i did this or that, i would never let anyone make the decision for me. B i would never get hooked and waste away my life to it like some people unfortunatly do C. i draw the line at a certain point. i am never going to do crack, heroin acid, X, or anything like that because that stuff just destroys your life. i mean you people can have your own views and opinions on this subject. you can judge me and brand me as a bad person for expiriencing these small aspects of life. its your choice. but take it from someone who knows, it can destroy your life if you have no control over yourself, it can and it will. i have seen it happen, people i know who have smoked themselves stupid, destroyed their lives before it even started. u can't just go buckwild with this kind of thing. you have to know what your doing and when your doing it. i have to keep a lid on it you can't let it run rampant. for some people it is a sign of "cool" for instance i smoked with two kids i go to school with and when i was in the locker room after football this guy i know, good kid means well, comes up and says hey zach man i heard you smoke thats cool man. some people view it as acceptance. in my opinion thats not right, i don't encourage that. for some people its a plus in some regards. for instance i am shy around meeting new people. i don't say much i kind of keep to myself. but when i am hgh none of that effects me. i just right in with meeting someone, i'm almost a different person. some people may look at that and say bullshit thats not true your just escaping reality with that. well maybe i am. maybe thats what i was trying to do. sometimes thats all i want to have my own little world to think about things and not have to put up with anything for the 2 or 3 hours that it takes effect during. for me it is a temporary escape of the harsher aspects of life. i don't look at pot as a tool to get people to like me or fit in. i use to break away have a little time were i don't have to worry about anything, have u ever felt serenity before. its a damn good feeling. am i weak for looking to pot for that maybe, probably. but am i a bad person for it absolutely not. i mean theres more i could say about my expiriences and stuff but i think i have said enough for now. i'm also open for questions if u have any, i'm not an expert but maybe i can shed some light on a gray area for u

Yea it may help you escape the world but many other less harmless things can do that too.
