LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Punk singer Avril Lavigne's hit single "Sk8er Boi" is heading to the big screen.
Paramount Pictures has optioned the song and hired "ER" writer/producer David Zabel to adapt its words into a feature film to be produced by studio-based MTV Films and Alphaville.
The song, which captures the divide between cliques and cultures, is about a teenage girl who rejects a skater boy with a crush on her because her friends don't approve of him -- even though she secretly likes him. Years later, he becomes a famous rock star and she is left with regrets.
Because the song has become an anthem for teenagers, the film will be true to spirit of the song. Also titled "Sk8er Boi," the feature will focus on the two teens from different backgrounds and the social constraints in which they find themselves.
As if the song wasn't bad enough. Thanks, Hollywood. Maybe Simple Plan can make a movie out of "I'm Just a Kid" to appease the wave of Hot Topic kids who eat up this stuff. >.O *fume*

ok sk8er boi was a shitty song, and the way she spells it makes me want to rip some one's throat out. and now a movie? first of all, any MTV movie will automatically blow ass, then its based on a song? what the hell. and what self respecting teenager views this song as their anthem? they should have their heads shot off with a 12 gauge shotgun. i mean it might be an "anthem" for punk preadolescents who think theyre the shit but arent. ugh, i hate this stuff.

Amen. I'm sick of the tie and cut off wrist crap too. -__- Everybody down here was in that phase for a month. Damnit Avril, you're posioning young minds! The song was shit. She only had one decent song. Singers, with the exception of Jennifer Lopez, should stay out of acting. That's why you sing, not act.

about the movie...just, ...no comment.
on another note, theres nothing I cant stand more than hearing about how "someone 'sold-out'" or "is a poser" or "I am more punk than you cause i think (insert name of singer/group here)sucks" its all about the music, and if it changes well, you dont have to like it. The subject of avril has been worn out.. who cares, her music isnt bad, its just not rock, and not my style either (and obviously not any of yours).

None of this even mentions the message that the movie is sending. This girl rejects this skater boy (I refuse to spell it the way she does, fuckin' hell) because of her friends, and only regrets it because he becomes a big rock star. She suddenly decides that she should have loved him as soon as he gets an assload of money. Is anyone else thinking what I am? G-O-L-D D-I-G-G-E-R. Yup, it's a Shakespearian tragedy when some weak-minded shitbrain can't get her man's money.

i just dont understand how ANYONE could view this as their theme. it wouldnt seem to have much meaning to anyone, except guys who want to be skaters but arent so they listen to avril

the worst part is that she calls it Sk8er Boi cuz she's trying to be all punk with the way its spelled, you know, fit in with the "sk8er" scene. any sensible person would know that skaters wouldn't want to be called sk8ters. i hate avril
