The Chaun would like to know what's so wrong with Walmart? Isn't that how business gets done? Or is that Nextel?

you know what really pisses me off about wal mart? in the commercials they always have the greeters at the door ready to make your shopping experience a magical one. as a frequent wal mart shopper, it has come to my attention that THESE PEOPLE DONT EXIST. In all seriousness, whoever is in charge of that crap is a huge butthole.

Oh, but they do exist. They just dont do their job. They just sit there and smoke and give you crazy looks if you talk to them.
To continue with the topic... Wal-Mart is quite evil. They lie about the sweashops they do buisness with and they diliberately (sp?) cast a blind eye on those buisnesses. Wal-mart likes morally bad buisnesses because work gets done constantly and it's cheap labor. If you only have to pay workers (combined) 8-16 cents for a $30 shirt, that's alot of profit.
A Sweatshop in Am. Samoa brought women from vietnam promising them a "good future in America." These women had to get loans of $6,000 to travel. They thought they were going to america, but really they were sent to Am. Samoa, a territory of America that does not have to follow minimum wage laws and other things of that sort. They brutally beat the women, forced impossible production-rates, and withheld paychecks. They were payed around 8 cents an hour and were not payed for overtime as a "punnishment." They worked around 85+ hours a week. These women could not flee back to their homeland because if they did, that 6,000 dollar loan would be inflated by the vietnamese government (who played a role in this deal). The intrest rate over there is 50%. You do the math. Also, if they fled, their families would be black-listed.
Fortunately, this problem finnally surfaced, and the National Labor Council took action. Today, the owner and many of the figureheads of this company face life in prison. The women still are missing money they are owed. JC Penny purchased from this company and has given a couple hundred thousand dollars towards the cause. This doesnt sound like much, but then Wal-mart has refused to give any money. Not a cent.
This is only one example...not a very good one. There are incidents where Wal-mart has gone out of the way to find sweatshops no one knows of (esp in China). Wal-mart denies doing buisness when the Sweatshops are discovered, and then when cruelty and ties to wal-mart are discovered Wal-mart says "Yes, we lied, but it's bad buisness acknowledge things like that." They actually said that.
All this on purpose to make profit. What happened to the "All-American made, well rounded Family store"?

I dunno about you guys or the K-marts near you, but mine (on John R.) totally sucks since Big K went bankrupt... I mean, all the best stuff has been shopplifted! Aw crap. weeeell, it IS the closest store, but I'll never forget how I had to wait an hour for one "Julian" to get back to his post in electronics so that I could get my copy of SCII. that pissed me off, haven't been back since.

There is a difference between not going to wal-mart because it is an evil corporation that doesnt worry about the well being of others, and not going to wal-mart because you think it "sucks" and you prefer another store.
Little do you all know that every corporation like Wal-mart does the same, they have just cleaned up their act. Wal-mart hasnt learned that it should make improvements with those they buy from. K-mart has a history too, but they stoped (or at least they say they have and they dont show any reaking evidence).
I think the main focus of this topic is the cruelty to sweatshop workers, the neglegence, and the refusal of benifts. not whether you think the store is better because it's cleaner, more nearby, or just better "just because."
